NORTH VANCOUVER — The dynasty looks to grow even grander.
North Vancouver’s Carson Graham Eagles will attempt to win the B.C. senior girls Triple A rugby title for the eighth time in the past nine seasons when the 2012 tournament begins a three-day run today at Klahanie Park in North Vancouver.
Carson Graham, Coquitlam’s Gleneagle, Courtenay’s G.P. Vanier, and Penticton are seeded Nos. 1-4 at Triple A. In Double A, the top four is Abbotsford, Mill Bay’s Brentwood College, Robert Bateman of Abbotsford and Williams Lake.
A Tier 2 championship will also be contested with Alberni District holding the No. 1 seed.
The Double A final is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the Triple A final at 3 p.m.
Last season, the No. 1 Eagles completed an undefeated season by beating No. 2 Cowichan of Duncan 55-0 in the Triple A title game.
On the boys side, the opening weekend of the Double A and Triple A championships runs Friday through Sunday at five satellite sites.
Each tier’s 16-team field plays championship-elimination matches, paring the field down to two eight-team quarterfinal draws when play resumes next Wednesday at Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford.
Triple A No. 1 Shawnigan Lake faces West Vancouver in a 2 p.m. match Saturday at Brentwood College on Vancouver Island. Other sites for the opening round include Rockridge Secondary in West Vancouver, Kelowna’s Parkinson Rec Centre, St. George’s School in Vancouver and North Vancouver’s Klahanie Park.
B.C. semifinals (May 31) and finals (June 2) will be staged at Rotary Stadium.
